During this class you will learn how to cook two versions of stew and a salad:

The peanut stew known as Tigadegena in Mali, Maafé in Senegal, Gisma Foye or Miya Yakoua in Niger, is a popular stew made with meat. It is served with rice, fonio, millet couscous, and more. We will also demonstrate how to make the vegan version of this dish. You can have it spiced up by adding habanero or scotch bonnet pepper up to your heat tolerance level.

Kopto, is a salad/snack made frequently in Niger, West Africa, my country of origin, there we make it with moringa leaves, here we make it with collard greens and/or different types of Kale. Added to that is sliced red onions (optional) and a sauce with a peanut butter base.

The dessert we'll make is Claclo, they are beignets (fritter) made with ripe plantains and organic flour.

We'll taste the dishes and take some home! Together will also sample West African drinks and would love to get your feedback on them.

To find the location of the First Baptist Church Kitchen, look at our website page and follow the directions to the south-facing door under the tab or dropdown "How it Works." There are photos of the entrance to the parking lot to use behind the County Courthouse and a map. Note that using "Google Maps" takes you to the other side of the building which is the north side of the church, so use the directions on the website instead of google maps. The day of the event you can also call us at 607-379-4472 if you can't find the correct door. The South-facing door faces the back of the Boardman House for those familiar with that historic building.

Per person price: $90.00; classes will be held when there are at least four people registering for the session, so invite your friends! Funds will be returned and a new class will be scheduled if we don't reach the 4 participants.
